Dentures in Lake Forest, IL

Missing teeth can make everyday eating, speaking, and smiling feel less comfortable. Dentures replace some or all missing teeth with a removable appliance, and our doctors at Ross & Durrett Family Dental take time to understand your oral health, priorities, and goals before recommending a path forward. Serving Lake Forest since 1968, we provide clear guidance for choosing and caring for your denture.

Denture options for your smile

Complete dentures replace all teeth in the upper or lower arch. Partial dentures replace some missing teeth while using remaining teeth for support. Immediate dentures may be placed around planned extractions, followed by healing-related adjustments when indicated.

During your consultation, our doctors will evaluate your teeth, gums, bite, supporting tissues, medical history, and goals. If implants are an option for you, we'll talk through healing, timing, and costs before you decide.

  • Complete dentures for an entire upper or lower arch
  • Partial dentures when some natural teeth remain
  • Immediate dentures placed around planned extractions

What to expect at your consultation and fitting

The process starts with an oral examination and a conversation about symptoms, expectations, and previous dental work. Our doctors will assess your teeth, gums, bite, and supporting tissues and obtain diagnostic records when needed. Impressions or digital records can help plan the appliance; the number and timing of visits depend on the denture type and your needs.

New dentures can feel unfamiliar at first as you get used to speaking, chewing, saliva flow, and the way the appliance feels. Follow-up visits allow our doctors to check the fit and comfort and make adjustments, relines, or repairs when needed. Dentures may need attention over time as oral tissues and supporting anatomy change.

  • Bring a list of medicines and health conditions to your consultation
  • Plan for follow-up checks after insertion or adjustment
  • Discuss how each option affects eating, speech, appearance, maintenance, and cost

Daily denture care and ongoing comfort

Clean removable dentures daily with a soft brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser, or another product recommended for your appliance. Clean your gums, tongue, cheeks, palate, and any remaining teeth as directed. Remove the denture at night unless your clinician gives different instructions, and keep it in water or an appropriate cleansing solution when it is out. Avoid hot or boiling water, which can warp it.

Regular dental visits remain important even with complete dentures. Our doctors can review your oral tissues, check the appliance, and help address irritation, pressure areas, a change in fit, or damage. Do not adjust, bend, or repair a denture at home.

  • Remove and clean the denture daily; clean your mouth and remaining teeth too
  • Follow product directions for any adhesive and do not use it to mask a poor fit
  • Call Ross & Durrett Family Dental for ongoing soreness, bleeding, mouth sores, cracking, or difficulty keeping the denture in place

Questions, answered clearly

Good questions are welcome.

How long does it take to get used to new dentures?

There is no single adjustment timeline. New dentures may feel awkward and affect speech or chewing at first, but most people adapt gradually. If you have ongoing pain, sores, or instability, call Ross & Durrett Family Dental so our doctors can evaluate the fit and determine whether an adjustment is needed.

Are dentures the same as implant-supported teeth?

No. Traditional complete or partial dentures are removable appliances. Implant-retained dentures use implants for support and involve a separate surgical treatment plan. An examination is needed to discuss whether implants or another alternative fits your oral and general health, anatomy, goals, timeline, and preferences.
